FEB 2026 AWL Trip to Virtus Alpine Ski Series France

Virtus Skiing Championships bring together the top athletes with intellectual impairment from around the world.

Virtus, the International Sports Federation for athletes with intellectual impairments, is pleased to sanction the 2026 French Open Alpine Ski Championships in Gourette, France as the 3rd event in a 3-part series.

Athletes Without Limits is excited to field a US National Ski Team at this event depending on athlete interest and trip viability.

Skiers with Intellectual Disability (II1), Down Syndrome (II2) and Autism (II3) who have already applied for and confirmed one-time Virtus International Eligibility before the entry deadlines for this event.

More details about Athletes Without Limits trip to this event including costs and an informational Zoom session will be emailed to all skiers who have completed Virtus eligibility with us.

NOTE: New athletes interested in Virtus Ski Racing events should first apply for eligibility. It can take up to 6 months to get eligibility confirmed by the Virtus International Panel depending on psychological assessments and documentation available or new assessments that may be needed.

VIRTUS OPEN ALPINE SKIING CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

This event is one in a three part alpine ski series:
January 29 Italy / Feb 7 Austria / March 21 France

ELIGIBLE GROUPS: Virtus II1, II2 and II3 Men & Women

EVENTS: Super-G, Giant Slalom, Slalom

MINIMUM AGE: The minimum age to compete in FIS (International Ski Federation) alpine ski races is  16 years old— turning 16 by December 31st of the current season.

TEAM ENTRY DEADLINE:  TBA

VENUE: Gourette, France

SANCTIONED BY: Virtus International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments

USEFUL INFORMATION:

ACCOMODATION:
Participating Virtus National Teams will have to independently arrange for all members of their team (staff and athletes) hotel reservations and ground transportation transfers including arrival in Austria and the hotel-competition venue.

INSURANCE:
Participating Virtus National Teams are responsible for their own insurance requirements for travel, personal accident, liability and medical matters for the duration of the Championships. Accident insurance including race risk and recovery costs.

LIABILITY:
The organizers do not accept liability for any injury/damage to persons/belongings.

SPORT RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The event will be governed by the rules of FIS – International Ski Federation – with approved variations by Virtus.

ATTENTION: in accordance with the new FIS regulations, the use of fluoro waxes is prohibited!
