Lea won 2 races and placed in the top 3 in several others (competing against non-disabled riders) to capture the 2009 MABRA Cat4 Men series title
While he has regularly placed in the top 10 in MABRA and other cyclocross events, 2009 marks his last season as a Cat 4 Cross racer — with two wins and several top 3 finishes he'll be required to move up to the Cat 3 race in 2010.

On November 21 a majority of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) membership decided in favor of the re-inclusion of athletes with an intellectual disability in competitions, including the Paralympics. USA Track & Field and Rolling Thunder Special Needs Program (www.rtsnp.org) hosted a National 5km Cross Country Disability Championships on October 4, 2009 in Kings Park, New York. There were categories for athletes with different types of physical and intellectual disabilities.
