Athletes Without Limits first met Sean O’Rourke at a disability cross-country event in Long Island. Since then he has dedicated his training to breaking barriers in Triathlon, becoming the first person with intellectual impairment to complete an Ironman. Sean, who’s impairments are associated with ingesting lead paint as a child, competes against non-disabled peers in the men’s open age group at major triathlons including:
- 2010 Nation’s Triathlon Olympic Distance
- 2012 MightyMan Montauk Half-Ironman (7:03:15)
- 2017 Lake Placid Ironman (14:14.49)
In the lead up to his Ironman Sean completed a training camp in the mountains of Oregon with Coach and Athletes Without Limits Co-founder Barry Holman and was featured in the Bend Bulletin.
