In High School Michael ranked among the best high school runners in the country (competing against non-disabled peers) and was named  Sports Illustrated “Athlete of the Month.“ After setting the Paralympic World Record for the 1500m in the T20 Class for (intellectual impairment) he went on to be the first male US athlete with Autism to win a medal when he won the men’s 1500m at the 2016 Rio Parlaypmics. Brannigan is from New York, where he began running with the Rolling Thunder team, and has trained with the New York Athletic Club.
