CARH, a nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of adults and children with intellectual disabilities, has awarded Athletes Without Limits a grant to create high performance athletic opportunities for people with intellectual disability in the Bay Area.

Athletes Without Limits is the only organization in the US focused on high performance sport for people with intellectual disability. It is the US member of INAS, the international governing body of para athletes with intellectual disability.

Athletes Without Limits supports hundreds of athletes around the US who compete in basketball, cycling, rowing, skiing, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis and tennis. Athletes Without Limits’ programs in Washington DC, Miami Beach, Atlanta, Houston and Oregon promote the integration into mainstream sports and they lead US teams at Inas international championships.

“We know that like everyone else, people with intellectual disabilities have the dream and drive to be their best and test their limits. Our programs and coaches provide the opportunities and supports to do just that through sport, said Barry Holman co-founder and president of Athletes Without Limits. We are honored to be chosen by CARH to continue its legacy of service to people with intellectual disability in the Bay Area. We look forward to partnering with local sport, business and community organizations to build a network of high performance athletic programs.”

“Our goal is to make sure Bay Area athletes with intellectual impairment have the opportunity to achieve their best and represent the USA at the highest levels of competition.” - Barry Holman

Holman continued, “Athletes Without Limits recently returned from the Inas Global Games in Ecuador where US athletes won two world championships, 16 total medals and set more than a dozen new US records. Two athletes are also currently competing in the Paralympic Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar and many are working hard to qualify for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Our goal is to make sure Bay Area athletes have the support and opportunity to achieve their best and represent the USA at the highest levels of competition.”

Interested parties, including athletes, parents, coaches and community leaders, are encouraged to contact Athletes Without Limits to become part of the process of developing Bay Area programs. Contact Barry Holman at (202) 544-0510 or email info “at” athleteswithoutlimits.org.
