Swimmers Leslie Cichocki and Sarah Gilbert Qualify for Global Games
The GTAC Disability Swim meet provided an opportunity for three new Athletes Without Limits swimmers to compete together with physically disabled Paralympic swimmers.
Swimmers Leslie Cichocki and Sarah Gilbert and Todd Eisinger traveled to Cincinnati to compete in the 8th Annual Greater Toledo Aquatic Club (GTAC) Disability Open Swimming Championships, sanctioned by both USA Swimming and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The athletes are trying to achieve qualifying times for the 2011 Global Games World Championships.
The athletes, who were coached by Athletes Without Limits founders Julie & Barry Holman, performed well together as a team, you’d never know they’d just met.
Leslie Cichocki qualified for the 2011 Global Games in 10 events (setting 4 INAS Amercia’s regional records), while Sarah Gilbert qualified in four events. Both will travel with the US team to Loano, Italy in September 2011 for the World Championships.
Full meet results are available here.
Athletes Without Limits looks forward to traveling to Ohio with more S14 swimmers (intellectual disability) in 2012. The meet is set for May 21-22, 2012. Click here for more information.
